JOJO ABOT is a genre and media bending artist currently touring with Ms. Lauryn Hill while developing her ongoing multimedia project FYFYA WOTO as a member of the New Museum’s incubator program, NEW INC.
Through herwork, Abot Investigates new forms of storytelling that provoke spirituality, community and expression as part of a growing global conversation around Identity as an evolving subject existing beyond the conventional bias of color, race, class or sexual orientation.
Having played iconic venues such as Radio City Music Hall along with Common, the Apollo Theater, Kennedy Center and Kings Theater, Abot continues to connect with a global audience through her self coined AFRO-HYPNO-SONIC aesthetic.
“Her voice is what immediately captivates, with sharpened edges and an intensity akin to Björk, the soulful, intimate depth of Erykah Badu and the ease of Sister Nancy. She experiments somewhere in between jazz, neo-soul, house, reggae, gospel and dancehall, crafting her own unique, innovative sound.” — AfroPop
